REGIONAL LEVEL 1 COMPETITION 2010

On Saturday 23rd Jan, Old Bawn Gymnastics hosted the South Dublin Regional Level 1 competition.  We had 3 teams entered.  For many of these gymnasts this was their first ever regional competition and they did really well.  All three teams came away with a medal and in the Level 1C section Shannon Quinn and Nicola O'Reilly qualified in 1st and 2nd place for the national final. Well done girls!!

REGIONAL LEVEL 7-10 INDIVIDUAL APPARATUS COMPETITION 2009

Yesterday - 5th December, Old Bawn Gymnastics hosted the South Dublin Regional Level 7-10 competition.  We had 5 competitiors entered in this competition.  I am delighted to say that all 5 performed excellently and came away with rewards. Our level 7 girls had a lot of tough competition but they managed to dominate their level taking 3 of the 4 golds available not to mention a few silvers and bronzes also. Really excellent day for the club and we are very proud of them all!

OLD BAWN SUCCESS AT TROJAN CUP

On November 28th & 29th Old Bawn had 9 gymnasts entered in this years Trojan Cup Competition.  The girls put on great performances and we did not come away empty handed.  Results for the club were as follows:

 

Competiton C - U/8 Shauna Kelly - Silver Vault Bars & Beam, Bronze Floor & All Around
Competition C - U/10 Lauren Reddy - Gold Bars
Katie O'Hara - Silver Floor, Bronze Vault & Bar
Competition A - Open Age Ali Kavanagh -  Silver Beam, Bronze Vault & Bronze All Around
Beth Gillmor - Bronze Floor

 

Other notable performances in Competition C were from Lucy Gillmor who placed 5th on Bars and Hannah Sullivan 6th on bars.  Also in Competition B Caoimhe Nixon placed 4th on bars and Emma Rogers 5th on Vault. Well done girls!!

ALI KAVANAGH COMPETES AT NORTHERN EUROPEANS

November 7th saw Old Bawn's Ali Kavanagh travel to the Northern European Competition as part of the Irish National Team.  Ali had a really great day of competition and rose to the big occasion.  She competed on Bars, Beam and Vault and had really solid clean performances on each piece with no major errors.  This was an excellent achievement for Ali at her highest level of competition yet. WELL DONE!!

ALI KAVANAGH SELECTED TO THE NORTHERN EUROPEAN TEAM

Saturday, Oct 10th , 2009

Following a recent trial we are delighted to announce that Ali Kavanagh will be travelling as part of the Irish team to the Northern European Championships next month.  This competition is an annual event and comprises teams from all across north Europe.  This year the competition is being held in Cardiff, Wales  and will take place on the 7th November.  We wish her lots of luck and are very proud to have her there to represent Old Bawn and of course the Rep. of Ireland! Congrats Ali!

WELCOME BACK TO 2009-2010 SEASON

Hi everyone!!! We are delighted to welcome you all back to the 2009-2010 gymnastics season!! We are really looking forward to another successful and happy year and it was great to see so many new and old faces up in the gym on 5th September!!  This season we will endeavour to keep the website up to date with all information regarding class scheduling and dates etc.  You will find this information in the notices section of the website on the main home page!!

OLD BAWN SUMMER CAMP 2009

Wednesday, Sept 16th , 2009

A great week was had by all at our first ever Old Bawn Gymnastics Summer camps!!  The camp ran from 6th-10th July with 4 hours training each day.  It was fantastic to see lots of brand new skills being performed by all the gymnasts.  At the end of the week we held an awards ceremony for the gymnasts who the coaches felt had really shone in each group.  All campers were also awarded a certificate for their hard work.  Following the success of the week will hope to continue holding camps in the future!

GYMNAST OF THE YEAR CAOIMHE NIXON

The Old Bawn Summer Club Competitions were held on 27th and 28th June.  We all really enjoy this weekend each year where all the gymnasts from beginners to advanced get to show their newest moves and partake in  friendly competition with their peers. This year we included some exciting display work from our advanced gymnasts which gave great atmosphere to the event. Well done to everyone who took part and it is clear to see the standard of the club is still increasing each year.

 

Gymnast of the year was awarded to one of our senior gymnasts Caoimhe Nixon.  The coaches feel she has shown great dedication and leadership through the year and along with some fantastic competition results she has had a great year.  Well done Caoimhe!!

MEN'S NATIONAL LEVEL 2-4 FINALS

Well done to the 6 Old Bawn boys who competed in the level 2-4 National Finals on 17th May in Phoenix Gymnastics.  The lads performed really well and once again we came away with a few medals as follows:

2 SILVERS FOR ALI AT NATIONAL FINALS

Monday, May 11th, 2009

This weekend saw our two National Squad members, Beth & Ali, compete in the National All Around and Individual Apparatus finals held in Douglas, Cork.  Both girls performed excellently and had a good competition.

In the All Around competition both girls had a good competition notably their very clean beam routines.  Beth also performed a new vault (Tucked Tsukahara) achieving a score of 12.47 which was one of the highest marks on vault of the day and her personal best.  Ali's steady performance led her to overall 4th place.

In the individual Apparatus competition Ali put in strong performances on bars and vault to achieve silver medals on both pieces along with placing 4th on beam while Beth placed 4th on both floor and vault.  All in all the competition saw the girls perform at their highest standard to date!

REGIONAL 1C-10 ALL AROUND COMPETITION 2009

Well done to the 14 gymnasts who represented the club at the South Dublin Regional Level 1c-10 All Around Competition hosted by Trojan Gymnastics, Blackrock on 2nd & 3rd April.  Overall the club put in very strong performances and came away with 8 medals. All medal winners will go forward to represent the South Dublin region at National Finals in Eccles Gym on 23rd & 24th  May!

CELTIC CUP 2009

Well done to Ali and Beth who represented the Republic of Ireland at the 2009 Celtic Cup competition in Perth, Scotland on 28th March.  Overall the Minor team put in a very strong clean performance and while they didn't place, the vast improvements made on last years competition results was very encouraging.  The two Old Bawn girls performed excellently.  Within the team Beth scored 2nd on Vault and 3rd on Floor and Beam.  Ali scored 1st on Beam, 2nd on Floor and 3rd on Vault and Bars leading her to overall 2nd position within the team.

APPENZELLER SHIELD

Saturday 4th April saw our boys team enter into the Appenzeller Shield competition held in Phoenix Gymnastics Club. With a total of 35 competitors in the competition the 7 Old Bawn lads performed really well and came away with plenty of success.

 

Results for Old Bawn were as follows:

Level 2 u/8 - Luke Byrne - GOLD

Level 2 u/12 - Aaron Byrne - GOLD

Level 3 u/10 - Cathal Larkin - GOLD

Level 3 u/12 - Seán Keane - SILVER and Ciarán McDonald BRONZE

Seán also placed 2nd and Ciarán 4th in the cross-level competition for the Appenzeller Shield which was a fantastic result for them.  Keep it up! View Results

Congratulations to Caoimhe Nixon who won the BRONZE MEDAL in the Level 8 - over 12 Vault final yesterday in Douglas, Cork.  Caoimhe performed a very clean 1/2 on 1/2 off with no landing faults to achieve a score of 11.20

Congratulations to Beth Gillmor and Ali Kavanagh who once again have been selected to represent the Rep. of Ireland at the 2009 Celtic Cup competition on 28th March.  This year the competition will be held in Scotland.  The girls will form part of the minor team. Coach Evelyn Burke will also travel to the competition as official national team coach.

NATIONAL TEAMS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009

TESTWell done to the team from Old Bawn who competed last weekend (March 8th).  This was the first year that Old Bawn entered a team at this level and the girls performed excellently - just narrowly missing 4th position by 0.6 of a mark.

 

In the Junior section Ali Kavanagh and Beth Gillmor's scores were good enough to qualify them for the National All Around finals in 5th and 9th position respectively.  Ali also qualified for all four Individual Apparatus finals while Beth qualified for Floor, Beam & Vault finals and is 1st reserve for Bar.

 

In the Senior section Caoimhe Nixon qualified for the All Around, Floor, Beam and Bar finals, Claire O'Connor qualified for the Floor and Beam finals and Julie Gillmor qualified for the bar final.  Excellent performance girls!

Well done to our senior gymnasts Claire O'Connor, Julie Gillmor and Caoimhe Nixon who represented the club at the "Regional Level 7-10 Individual Apparatus Competition" hosted by Old Bawn yesterday (March 1st). 

The girls competed in the level 8 over 12 competition and a big  congratulations is due to Caoimhe who achieved the gold medal on Vault with a great score of 12.00

REGIONAL LEVEL 2-6 TEAMS & INDIVIDUAL APPARATUS

Old Bawn played host to the "South Dublin Regional Level 2-6 Teams and Individual Apparatus Competition" last weekend (10th & 11th Jan).  The 2 day event saw many fantastic results for the Old Bawn Gymnasts winning 3 Team Gold Medals along with a total of 10 Individual Apparatus Gold, 16 Silver and 16 Bronze.  This was a fantastic feat for the girls.  All individual medalists qualify to represent South Dublin at the National Final in Newpark on 7th February 2009.

OLD BAWN 4TH AT NATIONAL INTERMEDIATE TEAMS 2008

Last weekend (16th Nov) Old Bawn had 7 gymnasts representing the club at the first National Intermediate Teams competition.  With 14 teams from all over the country competing the girls had some serious competition but following a really consistent days work the team from Old Bawn achieved a very impressive 4th position to make all the coaches in the club really proud. Well done girls!!

SOUTH DUBLIN REGIONAL LEVEL 1 COMPETITION 2008

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

We had a number of gymnasts entered in the Level 1 regional competition on Sun 26th October.  For most of these gymnasts it was their first competition outside the club and they all did fantastically well, with all girls going forward to represent the region at the National Final in Castleisland, Co. Kerry on 7th December!!

GYMNAST OF THE YEAR 2008 - CIARA NIXON

This years Old Bawn Gymnast of the Year perpetual Cup was awarded to Ciara Nixon.  The cup is awarded to the club gymnast whom the coaches feel has shown dedication and commitment along with outstanding achievements throughout the year.  This years winner, Ciara Nixon has had a fantastic year winning numerous All Around and Individual Apparatus Gold medals at level 5 in both Regional and National competitions.
